1990 New Edition Reunion [Feel-Good Friday]

Posted by ThatsMyJamRadio on March 19, 2010

Please forgive us for being a little giddy about today’s post.

First, we’ve been scouring YouTube ever since we were introduced to the service in 2006 looking for this video. No luck — even though it was clearly there.

What is “it”? Watch and read below about why we love it.

This was New Edition’s first reunion after the group decided to part ways to pursue other projects in the late ’80s/early ’90s and, as a bonus, it included all six members.

The set from the 1990 MTV Video Music Awards starts off with BBD performing their then-scorching hot single, “Poison,” followed by Bobby Brown singing “Tap Into My Heart,” then Johnny Gill blazing the stage with “Rub You the Right Way” and finally Ralph Tresvant smoothing things out with “Sensitivity.”

The sextet unites on stage moments later to groove to “If It Isn’t Love,” the post-Bobby-leaving-the-group single that is one of the group’s signatures. (Anyone else get chills and a surreal feeling from seeing Brown join in on the choreography?) Bobby gets his turn, crooning out “Mr. Telephone Man” before Johnny and company help finish the set with another classic, “Can You Stand the Rain.”

It’s fun to see the guys when they were still young and at their peak putting aside their differences to smash this performance of some of their biggest hits.

Was this video good enough or should we work harder? Let us know in the comments?
