Janet Jackson wants to join the ranks of several other rockstars by starting her own clothing line. Word has it some of this new line will include wardrobe-malfunction-optional lingerie. Ciara is also in talks to add her name to a line of women’s clothing that will be available at Steve & Barry’s, and recently signed a modeling contract with Wilhelmina.

India.Arie will make her Broadway debut In September, appearing In the Whoopi Goldberg-produced For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf. Phil Collins has expressed an interest in writing a Broadway musical, though he is not interested in using his old material for the project. The Chemical Brothers, however, are embracing their older material, along with a few rarities and new songs, for an upcoming greatest hits compilation titled Brotherhood.

The family of American Idol contestants will grow this summer as the cities and dates for this year’s auditions have been announced. Future tryouts will be held in San Francisco (July 17), Louisville, Ken. (July 21), Phoenix (July 25), Salt Lake City (July 29), San Juan, Puerto Rico (Aug. 2), Kansas City, Mo. (Aug. 8), Jacksonville, Fla. (Aug. 13) and East Rutherford, N.J. (Aug. 19). In other Idol news, Blake Lewis has been dropped by his label, Arista, and Ruben Studdard got married this weekend.

UNKLE plans to make four new singles available online, while Stevie Wonder is currently hard at work on two albums, and possibly a third, all to be finished after his summer tour dates end. Boy George, however, may not get to hit the road in the U.S. as the British singer/DJ has been denied a work Visa.

Big wins last week for: Timbaland, who won “Songwriter of the Year” at ASCAP’s Rhythm & Soul Music Awards; and winners at the 2008 BET Awards, including Alicia Keys (“Female R&B Artist”), Chris Brown (“Male R&B Artist”), UGK (“Best Group,” “Video of the Year”), Outkast (“Video of the Year”), Marvin Sapp (“Gospel Artist”), Missy Elliott (“Female Hip-Hop Artist”), Kanye West (“Male Hip-Hop Artist,” “Best Collaboration”), T-Pain (“Best Collaboration”), The-Dream (“New Artist”), Erykah Badu (“Best Video Director”), Raheem DeVaughn (“BET J Award”), Lil Wayne (“Viewers’ Choice Award”), Al Green (“Lifetime Achievement Award”) and Quincy Jones (“Humanitarian Award”).

Jennifer Lopez received something not so rewarding: a subpoena to give a deposition on her account of the events surrounding a shooting a New York nightclub in 1999 while she was dating Puff Daddy and that eventually led to Shyne being sent to prison.
