Near Misses (Part 1 of 3) [Best of 2011]
Posted by ThatsMyJamRadio on December 23, 2011
2011 was a decent year for music, though there was plenty of room for improvement — but we digress. We take pride in That’s My Jam’s Dance, Pop, R&B and Top 10 charts reflecting the best of the best each month, but our end-of-the-year wrap-up never fails to reveal that some songs are elusive and evade charting! Here, we recognize 7 of 21 near misses that should have been on at least one of That’s My Jam’s charts.
“Found My Light” (Layabouts Vocal Mix)
Soulful sounds are always welcome in our house … music.
Arash feat. Helena
Cultures collaborate rather than clash for this upbeat, international ballad.
“Love On Top”
Feel-good, fun and fancy footwork respectfully big-up New Edition.
Reviving retro synths with each new track.
Patrick Stump feat. Lupe Fiasco
Ditching rock for soul punk leads to catchily constructed pop.
Kelly Price feat. Stokley
“Not My Daddy”
Kelly’s on the hunt for love less paternal and using balladry to find it.
“Putting It Out There (Pride)”
Anthemic, angelic and self-empowering.
